iPhone Announcement

February 10th, 2011

Today we figured out that we got the iPhone!  Now we are going to start looking for help with building the application.

Back Down to Business

June 15th, 2010

We took an extra long break after Mark broke his collar bone, but he is now well enough to begin working on the Hotspot Wiki with Threat Watch for eBird. We are currently smoothing out logistics with funding and fixing bugs on our home page (the developers prefer the Google Chrome browser which caused some Internet Explorer incompatibilities to go unnoticed). We are cleaning up the prototype and plan to make it available to the public in early June so we can receive feedback as we move forward. It’s been a relaxing summer, but it’s time to realize the full potential of our project.

Final Presentation

May 7th, 2010

We gave our final presentation today with our new member, Chadi, and it went really well. I am so pleased with our team dynamic and how well we we work together under pressure. Our prototype demonstration received a great deal of praise and even some much appreciated criticism. A special thanks is in order to our mentors James Collofello and Richard Filley for their continuing support and assistance. The team will be taking a much deserved break for about a month to wind down before we get back to work in June. We are on track to have a deliverable by the end of July to be reviewed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Community Changemaker Winners!

April 30th, 2010

We just received the fantastic news! The EPICS Gold eBird Team received $2000 in funding from the ASU Innovations Challenge Community Changemaker competition. We are incredibly excited for the opportunities this will afford us. Congratulations to all the winners including two fellow EPICS teams–Rio Salado Habitat and Recycled Rides: Chasis.

Work Has Begun!

March 17th, 2010

Mark and Addison commenced work today on our first pass of the prototype. We spent quite a few hours in the new EPICS office. It was interesting being two of very few people on campus during spring break. The office facilitated a very good work environment since there are no distractions. We were able to read a lot more documentation about Google Maps and get a map onto the front page of our test server with various properties. Not a lot to show, but it was a victory since neither of us had used a Google API. We also spent some time getting the hotspots to display on the map by querying the eBird hotspot database with their API. We will look more into it tomorrow.

New Website!

March 7th, 2010

Welcome to the EPICS Gold eBird Team home page. The site is still currently under light construction so do not be alarmed if pages appear to be empty or working incorrectly. Thank you for your support!
